I was given a windows 10 code msdn by a friend a while ago and have been using but I've lost the code / dvd if I buy a oem copy and reinstall will there be any problems with activating as I read somewhere people saying the code is linked to the motherboard or something?

if you are going to buy W10 you may as well get the retail version that comes on the USB stick. this can be moved from system to system but only installed on 1 system at a time.

its £85.99 so its £6 more than OEM which is £79.99

OEM is locked to the motherboard its is first installed on so if your motherboard needed replacing you may have issues re installing, activating or may have to call the automated service which isn't hard to do

Thanks, I'm not to fussed about moving it from system to system at the moment.

So if I reinstall windows with an oem key it will just be locked to this motherboard or will there be a problem as a different code has been used?

there shouldnt be a issue using another OEM key on the system.

the reason why i say get retail is that it saves you having the issue of maybe having to buy another OEM copy of W10.

if your PC dies or for some reason you build your own PC you can take the OS off the old PC and use it on the new one with no extra cost of having to buy another OS.

If I could just jump in, why is there a difference between installing from a disc and USB?
I'm about to get windows 10 for my new build.

If your talking about the windows 10 media creation tool

One way downloads straight onto your USB stick and the other way downloads an ISO that you need to burn onto a disc

Cheers, I will just buy a retail version and do a clean install once I get some money

Not used windows in a while a seen some people talk about licensing etc so just wasn't sure if I buy a copy with a code if it would have any problems.

I may be somewhat confused but what I thought happens was I buy the software and it comes on a usb or on a disc?
