Hi, first post!

So the mothers PC is extremely slow, I've added things to it over the years but its struggling now. PC is only used as simply browsing the internet and nothing else, but even that it struggles with....

Prepare yourself for these ancient specs....

Intel Pentium Dual Core E5300
Asus P5q Pro
8gb DDR2 ram
Samsung 850 500gb SSD
Nvidia 710 GFX card

Windows 10 is the 64bit, even with 8gb of ram and the SSD it is very slow. Could it be because of the DDR2 ram? I've even done a full re boot and a clean install of Windows and still it struggles. Any other suggestions, or time to get a new PC?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.

As mentioned above you could get a much better system and could save yourself the time of troubleshooting the current 1.

Have you done anything else apart from re install Windows? Maybe windows is just getting my demanding and its finally taking its toll on the system over the years of updates.

Thermal paste is most likely dry as hell and the system could well be full of dust (unsure if these have been looked after)

If you really want to keep it then get something like a Q9550 which you can pick up cheap and would make a decent CPU upgrade to at least a quad core. Ultimately it’s never going to be particularly fast. Great for Windows XP but not really ideal for 10 especially on a dual core. It’s essentially mid to late 2000’s tech. Won’t be long until its 20 years old so you can’t expect too much!

I reinstalled Windows 10 64bit on an old iMac from March 2009 back in January to give away to someone. Specs...

Intel Core 2 Duo processor 2.66Ghz
4GB (2x 2GB) 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM
640GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA hard drive

It was slow loading compared to the SSDs we have nowadays but once loaded it was ok as a basic Internet web/email machine.
