got an issue that developed today. my server has network drives shared and the win10 pc i use can access the folder and see files and copy them over to local drive straight away, however if i want to play a video file mediaplayer classic-be hangs for 30-40 seconds before actual playback begins. once playing i can seek in the video instantly. playing a different video results in same delay.
now if the video file is not in the root of the shared drive but in a sub folder then playback is instant with no start up delay. whats going on?

Yeah, there wouldn't be any difference, other than the client not working out the NETBIOS name, but then it would either fail instantly, or take less than 40 seconds to work.

Could be a permissions thing. If the subfolder has less ACLs to calculate than the root of the SharedFolder, but that's a stretch I'm afraid.
