I had an OEM version of Windows 7 on my PC when I upgraded to Windows 10 for free. As far as I know, Microsoft changed my Windows 7 key to a Windows 10 key as part of the upgrade. I had to change my motherboard in my PC and now my Windows 10 key won't work. This means I'm currently running under a "non genuine" copy of Windows 10. I intend to purchase the full version of Windows 10 from the Microsoft website next month. I'm tired of OEM and would rather have a retail copy since it doesn't register to the PC's hardware and allows me to upgrade and change out anything in my system.
My question is this; what is the difference between the un-registered copy of Windows 10 and the activated one?
Like I said before, I will be activating it next month, but I don't want my PC to all of a sudden stop working or restrict access because I haven't activated yet. I simply can't afford £100 right now for a retail copy of Windows 10 so it will have to wait until next month. Am I safe to use this until next month or can I expect drastic changes to my PC?
I DON'T WANT A WORK AROUND FOR THIS. I SIMPLY JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS.
I do intend to activate it once I have the money to.
