Windows 10 RSAT available - but...

I've got a Windows 10 Pro x64 PC (OEM license) that I'm using for compatibility testing in the office.

It's joined to the domain, and everything mostly works as I expect it to.

MS have just released the RSAT tools for Windows 10, meaning it now becomes a viable OS for me to use to manage stuff: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=45520

I've installed the tools, but they don't show up anywhere. The installer runs through pretty quickly and looks to complete OK, but the tools aren't available in the Start menu, they don't show up under Installed Updates, and they're not listed in Windows Features.

There's nothing in the Event Logs to suggest a failure or error of any kind. Exactly the same thing happens on a VM that's running Windows 10 Enterprise Evaluation.

I've tried reboots of the PC, but it doesn't make any difference.

Has anyone successfully installed them? Any suggestions as to what I can try? Using Windows 10 without the RSAT tools is going to be a bit of a pain.

Hmm.....glad i found this thread.
I couldn't even download the .msu using Waterfox on my win8.1 pc (which always works when other browsers fail).
I had to use IE11 for this purpose.
So, i copied it over to my w10 x64 pro tablet for testing.
Rebooted (as requested).

Mine works mate. First time.
I'm using a Dell Venue 11 tablet that was already on the domain when i did the update from win8.1 pro to w10 pro.

Daft question, but you are using the x64 version and not x86 aren't you? (we've all done it at one time or another ). It's w10 so...ya know.

Not sure what else i could offer, it simply worked for me.
What language are you using? I remember RSAT for win8 was a bugger for me if i didn't actually have the US English language installed, whether using it or not.

Good luck.

Only other issue I have read up on this is that there seems to be reports of issues with non en-US machines where its not picking up the locale correctly.

I will test this on my Win 10 laptop tonight as I need the tools anyway and I will let you know.

PC is x64, and I'm trying to install the x64 tools. I tried the x86 tools, but they error out straight away as not being suitable.

Bingo! Added the English-US language to the system, and then the tools installed.

Thanks :)

Apparently RSAT has been available for windows 10 since build 9926 but it only worked for US language version of windows 10. If that is still not fixed then ms is hopeless.

Maybe that is what you were reading?

You have to go to add remove windows features and add the tools in manually after installing the update.

Would use this as a work around for now as I am not sure how this affects the RSAT connections to en-UK servers etc :) Might be worth a try and make sure that this is connecting to your servers OK :)

This bug has been around since April 2014 it seems and they still haven't fixed it xD

You can, from memory have en-UK as your default system locale, but you must have the en-US installed, otherwise it breaks.

RSAT installs everything for you, you DO NOT have to go into windows features to add any of them. You do that to turn some of them off.

Glad you got it sorted mate.

Thanks for the heads up on the language packs, I will test tonight, with and without the en-US and see what happens :D

Been waiting for this as the laptop is Win 10 and the new 2012 servers require it for some of the remote PowerShell features now that I am scripting. Will be a god send to have RSAT again :D

Just installed it on uk version locale and it installs ok and enables everything.

Previously it would not allow you to install the update saying language not supported. Previous versions would also not enable everything automatically, which it now does.

Seems a bit buggy, opened up group policy and it said error with domain controller change base dc. Then went to view primary gpo and it went to not responding.
