The new search bar in Windows 10 looks very handy, but it uses Bing! Does anyone know of a way to make it use Google? I've not found anything myself yet

are you using edge?

if so click on the three dots up the top right and go to settings and then scroll to the bottom where it shows advanced settings

under here you can change it from bing to google

there is a section where it says "search address bar with" be default it says bing, if you click this then go to add new you can set it to google

I serioiusly doubt it, because its Cortana not simply Bing. It would be like asking if you could make Google Now use Bing, or Siri use Bing, etc.

Yeah that was what I meant in my post above. Shame, because I just think that Google is by the far the best search engine/platform out there. Plus, like others have said, I love Chrome so I rely on the browser/extension syncing across several devices (home, work, phone etc)...

This is part of Microsoft's play to get a larger search market share. The only way this will change is if Google pursue Microsoft over abusing their position.

Bing is so rubbish though compared to Google. In google when I search for something most of the times it will be available in the first link it shows. With Bing I have to go through a few links it gives to get what I want

I'm sure on the insider builds you could change the search provider to google or yahoo :) but it's not on the final build, maybe they "forgot to add it" :)

I agree. Good job I'm really not fussed about Cortana. Even on my Note2 do I rarely use Google Now. They're all fun novelties at first, but most soon forget about them.

Search bar is Cortana (Bing) so pretty much useless unfortunately. If it had some useful features like Google / Siri, such as timers etc. then I'd love it.

I have good news for you all here!

Cortana CAN be converted to use Google as her search engine! There is a way to do it for Firefox and Chrome.

I will link the Chrome version here, as I can't remember how to do it for Firefox.

Using Chrome as your default browser, install the Bing2Google extension (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/bing2google/mgoehlfmhfafaiepckjikpphoklijedl?hl=en). Cortana text AND voice search will now use Google :)

Taken from Reddit, the Firefox version is out there too!
