Hi group does anyone know why this would happen on windows 10 home 64 bit:

After entering my password it would take more than 5 minutes to get to the desktop but even then all I got was a black screen with the cursor.
After waiting longer I got to the desktop but only with like half of my icons and it was NON responsive.
I've searched on Google for it and found a bit of info on it but I'm wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience and knows a fix? And could explain what it is.
Note: before this happened it was booting in 13 seconds from cold start
Cheers

Hello Sneakyfox888,

Technically what happens after you enter the password is, Windows loads all the start up items. And if there are too many items, or one of the start up item is not loading correctly, it would take time to display the desktop. So here's what you can try. Once the desktop is loaded, open task manager by pressing CTRL + SHIFT + ESC. Click on the start up tab and try disabling anything apart from the security software. 2nd, ensure that the security software is up to date. And finally, run a full system scan and remove all the infections.

All the best.

There are issues with Windows 10 and the hdd sitting at 100% usage on some peoples setups.

Once it finally does boot up, check your task manager to see if anything is running high (cpu, memory and hdd usage) if anything is constantly sitting high, then you can start googling specifics.

I was having similar issues with a W10 upgrade, sometimes bootup was super quick and sometimes super slow. In the end i did a clean install and no problems since.
