Hi All

Hard to explain this but every few minutes Windows 10 plays a chime like the one that you get when you pull out a usb drive ie something has been disconnected. I have tried looking at the device manager and event log but cant find what is doing this - its getting a touch annoying....any ideas?

Many thanks

You could try watching device manager with everything expanded.

Silly question, but you're not watching somebody stream are you? It has confused me sometimes when they have a bazillion followers logging in/off and I thought it was my computer.

Hi, thanks for the reply - no, not watching anyone stream and have tried watching the device manager, but couldnt see anything change.

On a slight side issue - been looking at upgrading to Windows 11 but it says my pc must support secure Boot - I have an Asus mobo and have checked the bios that is enabled, which it is, but windows is saying its not - any ideas on this one?

I had the same issue with my Gigabyte X570 AORUS ELITE board, had a search around the web and most recommended a bios update which did solve the issue.

Thanks, its a bit wierd as when I got the PC off the forums it came with Windows 11 installed but then the SSD failed and I had to re-install and only had Windows 10...

The shop probably installed Windows 11 from their USB stick and used the key that should have been provided to you.

I got it from the forum - it was more the issue that it was installed, now says it cant be installed due to it not supporting secure boot that confuses me.

Have you tried from a USB stick or only from within Windows? There is a chance that if the USB installer works, you'll end up reformatting your drive.

I wonder if whoever installed Windows 11 from the forum used a bypass when installing Windows? If so, it's just a registry file that you use right at the start of installation from booting off the USB disk.

Sounds like a similar issue which I had with my Gigabyte B550i board. I did the same couple things, BIOS update and then I now get the Win11 upgrade nagging.

The original Windows11 install on your PC sounds like it might have been a modified ISO/build using a program called Rufus. It allows you to tweak a standard Microsoft Win11 ISO file so that it will install without TPM enabled in the BIOS

Sorry to revive thread - the issue has come back, with the addition of the mouse keeps pausing as well. I am now running Windows 11 but I have also found some of the USB ports no longer work (front usb-c for example)? Anyone else have an idea of how I can diagnose this?

no, seems to be fine when in bios, but it takes a long time and is unpredictable - not had an issue in last 30 mins for example?

and just happened again now! wasnt doing anything other than web browsing and was using a differnt mouse so think its something to do with USB ports nut cant figure out what could be causing it?

driving me nuts now, mouse keeps pausing, tried it with another mouse and get the same. Only dont get the issue for a while if I swap USB ports - something wrong with the USBs I think, I have a completely dead USB-C port on the front that used to work so something strange going on!
