Windows 10 upgrade/licence advice

Hi guys,

I am a bit confused, I have been part of the windows insider preview for the last month or two running the previous builds of windows 10.

I upgraded my personally owned copy of windows 8.1 pro.

Now after the release of windows 10, the watermark that was on the desktop has disappeared from the bottom left, so i presume i am permanently upgraded? Or do I have to go back to windows 8.1 then upgrade to 10 again to receive my free upgrade?

Also whats the best way to do a clean install?

My understanding is.......
You upgrade from Windows 8.1 and Microsoft activates your copy of Windows 10 in the process, it recognises your hardware so that in future you can do a fresh installation without the need to enter the license key. You can then download a copy of Windows 10 media for either USB or DVD installation. Then just clean install a fresh copy, skip the license input then bob's your uncle!
I have done this with no issues. You will still have your Windows 8.1 copy to use if you need it, I just dual boot both for now.
The way I do a clean install is to boot from DVD then do a custom installation after reformatting. Systems are different though so if you're not sure how to do a clean install, do some research.

Your probably still on insider.
Go to settings, update, and check if you are still an insider.
If you want turn insider off and as you upgrade it should remain activated.

Or stay on insider if you wish, like I'm doing.
