Windows 10 Upgrade Question

A friend of mine has a Windows 7 HP laptop (one with fingerprint recognition which he used instead of a password).

He took it upon himself to take advantage of the Windows 10 free upgrade, at some point during the installation process it is prompting him for a password, which he doesn't have as he always used the fingerprint thing.

Any way round it? I told him I'd pop round later today and take a look, I've no idea other than buying a disc and doing a fresh install. Can you get the machine to boot up an alternative way to bypass it without a disc?

He's tried leaving it blank, typing in variants of password all with no joy. He is adamant is never had a password set up on it.

I've not fiddled about with a Windows machine this way for a couple of years now as I'm all Mac.

Any pointers?

Cheers
