Hi all

Recently put together my new PC, Now ive got round to installing windows and it goes all wrong so I need your help...

1. Insert USB and select language etc
2. Wait for install and updates then PC restarts

Then it looks back to installation screen, so I read online if you remove USB when it says PC is restarting then it will make the PC find the Windows on the relevant SSD... This didn't happen with me, Every time I do this it just goes straight to BIOS and never actually boots to windows.

what could be my issue?

SSD Sata not in correct port?

Not set something correct in BIOS?

Any help appreciated

cheers

I had something similar to this. Im sure an expert will come along soon and clarify, but there is a setting called Intel RST in the BIOS that caused some issues similar to what you are describing. With it disabled, it would not boot from my local SSD at all. I got BSODs all the time. Turned it on and everything works.

What motherboard is it? Are you doing a legacy or UEFI install? Usually with a UEFI install it should boot to the boot drive straight away after the first restart. With legacy, make sure to set the boot order to boot from the SSD first.

motherboard is a Gigabyte B450 DS3... Im not to sure if im installing legacy or UEFI... How can I check? On my previous builds ive never had this issue it usually installs then restarts from SSD

Jump into BIOS and check the boot order, if it boots the install USB as UEFI, it will be called "UEFI: USB" while legacy will just be "USB".

Is this an install USB you prepared yourself? Something like Rufus allows you to select if the USB can be booted as legacy, UEFI or both.

ok ill check when I get on PC later.... It's the download from Microsoft website, I put it onto USB then install windows without Activation code

getting rather peed off now but it's probably something simple... This evening I took the PC apart to fit some fans and after moving some cables around and connecting everything back up it decides it doesn't want to locate my SSD to install windows :(

Which SSD is it and how is it connected to the motherboard? If SATA, which SATA port is it connected to? Can you at least see it in BIOS?

it's connected via SATA cable.. Ive put the connection in 3 sata ports... It's a gigabyte ssd, in bios ive noticed it says boot order and then a device called Toshiba but I have no Toshiba bits in my build

The Toshiba you see is the Gigabyte SSD, they use Toshiba's NAND for their SSDs.

Try cleaning the disk during the install, this guide is for W7 but it should work for W10: https://appuals.com/fix-no-hard-drives-found-windows-7-installer/

Maybe also try use Rufus to create the bootable USB instead, I've had more luck using that to install Windows instead of the default one that Microsoft offers.

Ahhhh thanks bud I didn't know it was Toshiba... I will give it another go tonight when I get home from work... Thanks mate

Im gonna give up soon with this... the usb does not even bring up windows any more.. all it does is loads up a blue screen which says ' your pc needs to be repaired' Error 0xc0000098...

When ive googled the code everybody says when windows pops up click repair, How can i do that if windows isnt appearing because of the error.... i have no acces to another pc to do a fresh USB install of windows... what are my options now
