Hey all,

I've today installed the Windows 10 version 2004 for the second time (after the first time made my PC stutter unbearably) and i'm still getting the stuttering issues!!

It's like my entire PC is now running on 10 FPS, even typing is stuttering.

I keep being told by the OS that I have to update because my old version is not going to be supported soon, but I literally cannot use this update as it is currently for me.

I've updated my GPU drivers (Now on Radeon 20.9.1) since the first time i tried with this update and it hasn't improved whatsoever.
When the PC first started up after this update just now, I quickly opend Rocket League to test it out. It worked fine for around 2 minutes and then the stuttering began again.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be? If you need more info about my system I will happily pass it over

Current specs are:
R7 2700
x470
5700XT

Help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks :)

Edit: Video game music is stuttering too, but not music from spotify

Ideally I'd like reinstalling Windows to be a last resort as I don't want to have to go through all of the pain of installing everything again. I'll see if this update works first of all

It has unfortunately not worked. I might just see if I can roll back and then wait until I'm absolutely forced and then reinstall windows.

I've never reinstalled windows before, will it wipe absolutely everything off all 3 of my HDD/SSDs?

If you know which boot drive is the one then unplug the other two. It will delete all data on that disk if you tell it too.

If it’s stuttering then there’s something a miss for sure. You could remove all the drivers you can find in the control panel. Maybe give us a screenshot of all software installed. That was we could tell you which ones are drivers (unless you know this).

I wouldn’t rollback if the issue is still there.

Yep all good on the drivers thanks :) I've been having issues with my Radeon drivers since I bought my 5700xt, so reinstalling windows might actually solve all those issues too.

As above, if you had stuttering in 20H1 (2004), then rolling back won't help. After backing up what you need, Just unplug all your drives except the Windows one and reinstall.

I prefer to do a run of Macrium Reflect, that way I can quickly restore the image onto a spare drive and find whatever it is I might have missed.

Alright cheers, I'll give it a go tomorrow if the issue is still persisting by then. Thanks both (y)

I would have done, but it was my turn to host the virtual quiz me and my mates have been hosting since March. :D

The issue does seem to have stopped for now weirdly, but I reckon I'll still do the reinstall just to get rid of the cobwebs so to say

Unfortunately I've just reinstalled Windows and the issue is still there (I used the 'keep personal files' option).

I really don't know what to do now except using the delete personal files option, but I doubt any of those files are causing the issue?

Have you troubleshooted any hardware issues?

It certainly doesn't sound like a software issue if you have done a full install. Sounds like a hardware fault somewhere.

I've got a feeling it's my 5700XT if it is indeed hardware. I've only had issues with it since I bought it, but i'm unfortunately not in a position to be able to sell it and buy a new one at the moment.
I've gone through the DDU process multiple times and it hasn't fixed anything for me. Most annoying issue I keep getting with the card is that it believes my second screen (which is 1080p) is some stupid 480p resolution, every time the PC starts it resets to that res and I have to unplug the monitor and replug to fix it.

I know it does not like some third party AV programs, so stick with Windows Defender ,Avast etc ..they seem to work well. I do know Kaspersky even the free version caused issues.
I generally use AVG, although it's now not installed (and the issue was still there albeit a bit better.

I haven't been able to test it today but will do this evening when home from work. Will see if the issue appears again, and will try and decipher what, if anything, causes it.

Warranty claim on the 5700XT?

Unfortunately, due to my humongous incompetence I've almost certainly waited too long. It's now been just over a year now. I've never really been someone that returns stuff - just sort of get on with it and persevere, rookie error!

Ah that's interesting! I've had a look at the invoice and can't see a warranty date referenced. I'll see if I can get in touch with them?

So it turns out I don't have onboard graphics, so I can't test it out. However, I have now noticed that the stuttering is being matched with the spinning wheel on my mouse quite a lot. Which makes me think it's not the GPU and more CPU?
Eitherway, I'm getting towards my wits end.

Giving another windows update a go now (as when I reinstalled it went back to 2004), but I don't think that's going to solve anything unfortunately

I just don't understand how this happened the moment I was forced off of Version 1909 and onto 2004. What could have caused it?!? It's doing my nut in, and QPR currently losing to bloody Barnsley is not helping whatsoever

Just tried to play siege with the issue and I'm getting this warning:

"
FPS Icon
FPS or Update rate icon appears when your frame rate is dropping or is unstable and the number of packets sent by your game client to the server is not high enough. You might experience hits being rejected by the game server and abnormal induced latency (this latency is induced by the game server to prevent other players from seeing your character stuttering). You could also experience rubber banding when the icon is red."

Nothing in Task Manager to suggest anything wrong, temps are all fine, nothing working overtime whatsoever.
Are you aware of anyway I can downgrade to V.1909 now that I've reset my pc inbetween? I can no longer do it through the menus unfortuantely :(

Think I may have solved it - for now anyway. I've managed to get an hour of PC usage without it stuttering so far.
I think it may have been a chipset driver that was causing it. I'd completely forgotten about the drivers for that, and i was using an ancient one.

A little thing I have a question on. I updated to Bios F31 when you suggested I do it earlier from here: https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Motherboard/X470-AORUS-ULTRA-GAMING-rev-10/support#support-dl-bios
The only reason I didn't download a newer one was because of all the red writing that's telling me to install all the older ones first. However I've just noticed F51 doesn't have any of the writing. Can I bypass 40-50 and go straight to 51 you rekcon?

Cheers
