Windows 10

mostly though, if windows update starts updating drivers, because we all know how awesome windows update is for drivers, and then breaks something i will be hugely annoyed

that's the point of this release surely? if they update something the need to know if it causes any more issues. like others have said, go back to win8 if you're going to be annoyed. it's like you can't understand why this huge massive business has released an unfinished piece of software for free.

to be honest for what i use my PC for the OS is fine.

only things i don't like are the start menu and control panel but this is easily sorted by installing classic shell and all is right in the world again lol

Don't take this the wrong way but I get annoyed when I read posts like this, first it's preview alpha/beta build so YOU use it at your OWN RISK,by design it's for feedback and testing purposes only, so you are basically unpaid tester for their software.

Don't expect a perfect OS from a preview OS build because you won't get one,end of the day was your choice to install and use a preview build so your issue not Microsoft's.

There are many reasons why quite a few people wait for final/RTM builds and then some.

just to clarify what i meant, since a few commented on it. i have no problem with betas having issues, its to be expected. it was more that it didnt seem as though it was an "opps broke it" issue but rather that it was something intentional and hence would be a constituent aspect of win 10 going forward.

sorry if that was not more clear.

I hope(you probably are) you are sending feedback to Microsoft, the more people do the better issues/problems can be fixed for later builds.

indeed but i dont hold a great deal of hope. ms was so intransigent with win 8 and regarding the lack of a start button for so long, when the world had largely screamed in unison they wanted it back.

given that its only those of a more techy persuasion that are going to be fussed about auto / manual control of updates, i dont see them caring.

Start button was not an issue for me,however it's always easier to adapt then wishing for most things you want in an OS that you never get,Microsoft have their own ideas just like all those people out there.

Personally I just adapt to Win10 regardless of UI like I always do for many decades now.

I only ask for one thing on 10 ie stability, anything else is a bonus in my books.

I'm thinking of installing the release version of Windows 10 (when it's released) on a laptop that currently has Vista 32-bit. Though I'll install Win 7 to get the free upgrade to Win 10.

The laptop is pretty ancient (a Compaq Presario C700) and only has 2GB of memory. Will that amount of memory be an issue for Win 10?

requirements are meant to be the same as windows 8, specs below

•Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2
•RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
•Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
•Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

It should be OK for memory - I'll probably choose the 64-bit option so 2GB should cover it.

Not sure about the graphics card, but we'll see...

well ill confess i hated the no start button so i installed a 3rd party one and then mostly win 8 was pretty good. still the general populous (the kind that have yahoo tool bars) didnt seem able to do that and were lost without the start button. that so many wanted it back, something so simple to do yet ms effectively stood there and FU all. its that that troubles me when i encounter things like the only auto updating. ms didnt care about millions of users so i cant see them giving a fig if a handful of control freaks dont like it.

You can enable the spartan render engine in ie11.

Enable Experimental Web Platform Features
1.Open IE11
2.Type about:flags in the address bar
3.Set 'Experimental Web Platform Features' to enabled
4.Restart browser

Thankyou :D
Will give it a try after work.

I have it installed on an old laptop - has a pentium processor, 2Gb of Ram, built in graphics and an SSD. Windows runs fine, only the graphics let it down but that's the laptop and not the OS - it can barely run Candy Crush Saga :p
