Hi,

I am looking to upgrade my CPU to match Win11 requirements.

Mother Board:
MSI B450I GAMING PLUS AC (Socket AM4)

CPU:
Inter i7-6700k Skylake

I am looking at buying this CPU replacement :

is LGA1151 all I have to worry about ? This will work with my MSI motherboard right ?

I checked on microsoft's website and seems that this model is supported

Hi, bit confused ... you need a different mobo for that cpu?
Not the best cpu choice, its 2 gens old, go for this
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/inte...ocket-lga1700-processor-retail-cp-69x-in.html

Or Ryzen 5600/5800X if you are keeping that mobo.

that cpu will not work in your board the ONLY option is to get a new mobo and CPU,

unless you are desperate wait a year or 2,

or dump your old cpu on the bay (100 - 120) and get a ryzen 5600x and cheap am4 mob - nice performance bump

Yeah I may do that just worried it may cause some weird problems (it's a work PC I need it rock and solid). Seems like running win10 for few more years and full upgrade later is a plan for me.

Thanks for all suggestions/advise. Appreciated

FYI: you can use lga1151v2 CPUs (8th/9th gen) in a modified lga1151v1 board, but since this is a work PC, I'm not sure running a modified BIOS would be wise anyway.
