Windows 11: Slow File Explorer

If I double click 'This PC' it opens and shows all drives instantly.

If I'm on a site and try to 'Save As' or maybe 'Select Files' when FE opens, the window opens instantly, but it just says 'Working on it...' for maybe 7 or 8 seconds. During that time it will often show as 'Not Responding' too.

I've tried clearing file history, resetting view and removing an app that was showing a folder in the view that opens, but can't understand what is causing the delay. Any ideas?

**EDIT** Well, that's typical isn't it. I've been trying things for about 30 minutes... I think 'I know, OC peeps will know' and make a post. The next thing I try seemed to fix it! (Indexing Options)

Do you actually need indexing? I have it completely disabled on my PC, it's totally useless for me. I will look for something once or twice a year, maybe. It's not worth the constant system overhead it costs.

Try Voidtools everything
Free software much better for searching
Than windows indexing
I turn indexing off and use that instead

Uninstall it and reinstall Windows 10 - even if you've fixed it.

This seems to have come back. I've checked and indexing is still off. Any other ideas?

I get this phenomenon quite often and found no real solution. It's totally random when it happens but usually after some time. Opening ThisPC will result in 'Working on it...' and Not responding if I click into the window trying to encourage it to work. What does then work is going through Network and typing the drive letter and then im able to select files on that drive. Sometimes this is enough to remove the block that was causing ThisPC not to work as well.
