Am curious.... what musts do you do to a windows install - whether its a brand new install or maintenance?

Program uninstalls?
Blocking etc?

Also what are you must have software you always install?

I try not to modify it too much as they keep changing things which breaks stuff :(

First things I do is restore the Context Menu and Image Preview menu functionality, disable "Use the Print screen key to open screen capture", disable all the sticky, filter and toggle keys stuff.

Windows Update Blocker seems to be the only software which comprehensively prevents undesirable updates behaviour though it is kind of the nuclear option - most of the other software will fail to block stuff at some point even if it mostly works to manage updates :(

My baseline software wise:

7-Zip
Editpad (Or Notepad++)
Firefox
K-Lite Codec Pack with all the stuff + MPC HC
GIMP

Also GPU-z, CPU-z, Hardware Monitor and/or HWInfo64, VirtualDub and VLC are good to have, O&O Shutup10 also can be useful - though there are individual programs like Windows Update Blocker which tend to do some of that stuff better.

This is the guide I followed to debloat during install:

Had an issue using windows update and solved it:

Now I want to try out Microsoft direct storage, but I don't have gamebar installed or xboxlive. I've seen it available for download in the microsoft store so I will try to update a backup install first.

Edit: this fixed it (still trying to find out if I'm using direct storage):
