Only for USA users
Unless you change your location in pc settings
And in your Amazon account
And only for beta channel preview not dev

Means you can run android apps on pc
BUT Amazon app store and only about 50 apps so far
Bit of a pita to do it
Did manage to sideload some other apks/apps
But was CMD prompt stuff to do it
Will have to look into if sideloading Google play store
Is going to be possible
Guess it's something new to mess around with
Though the your phone app is definitely an easier method
But be interested to see where it leads

Yeah I know
Technically this is emulating it too I guess
But some people will prefer using something "native"
To Windows rather than an emulator software
Plus none of the emulator companies
Have the resources of Microsoft
So it may end up being a superior product
Though the Amazon app store decision sucks :cry:

Forgot to say
Usually emulators are using older android
Least last time I looked
Not android 11
And @AStaley there's already plenty people
Use emulator as mentioned so there'
Definitely a demand
I guess when it comes to gaming a bigger screen
Always helps
Plus it's early days yet but the power of your pc
Should be an advantage over a phone for gaming
Plus the ability to have multiple apps
Open side by side at the same time is a big plus
For me

Just to update
You can work around the USA only bit
By getting app store from 3rd party website
Instead of Microsoft store
Though I just changed my Amazon account to USA address
@AStaley
Not really up on iPhone/apple stuff
But for Android anyways
If you want to use multiple apps at the same time
This should allow you to have as many as
You can fit on your monitor open at same time side by side
Saves a lot of minimising and opening other apps etc
Plus I assume the extra ram of pc will also be
A benefit
Unless you have a top end phone/tablet
But budget ones of 2gb ram multiple apps is pretty much useless
Even 4gb doesn't go a long way
Not actually had a longer look at what it's capable of today
There's also the being able to use a mouse and keyboard
I guess Microsoft has a much better idea of what
It's future plans and capabilities will be though
I think though not tested it yet that copy/paste/drag and drop
Between the Android apps and windows may also be possible
Which could also be a time saver

So the actual apps available at launch
Are pretty uninspiring
But you can sideload using ADB
You can also grab apps from play store
By copying the link and going to some websites
And they will fetch the APK
Though still need to sideload it
But apps requiring Google services still not going to work don't think
Though it's early days and someone will probably
Figure out how to get Google services or play store on there

I can't understand why anyone would want to run android on a windows platform (unless it's for development and testing). Just opens up a can of worms from another area what can be targeted from a security point of view, unless they sandbox .apk file completely.
It's virtualized so possibly it's sandboxed
As for reasons I already mentioned a few of them
Bigger screen
More ram
More CPU and GPU power
Multiple apps open and visible at same time
Use of mouse and keyboard
Copy and paste between android and pc
Control your phone from pc
And probably other stuff I forgot or didn't think of

just got to very end and got powershell error grrrr!
Rejecting a request to register from AppxBundleManifest.xml because the manifest is not in the package root.
obviously it is there
possibly because i already had subsystem for android installed?

Yeah already did the USA bit
Typical it errors on the very last step
Not the first
Guess will uninstall and give it one more try
Though betting by now someone has a slightly
Easier way of doing it
But will persevere anyway

i take that back lol
restarted the pc and now subsystem for android doesnt work
virtualisation error
even though it worked before restarting
so obviously i had virtualisation enabled

Edit
Very peculiar restarting pc turned off virtualization
In the bios
Working again now

Not heard anything about Microsoft officially incorporating
Sideloading in the future
Though doesn't mean someone else won't produce
A software that deals with it
You can also uninstall by right clicking on the app in start menu
Some apps may not work in ADB -- though if you're an advanced ADB user
You may know a way to
Those apps are ones using xapk which contain an APK and an OBB file
Think in the end up I sideloaded apkpure to deal with it
Though was very late and was very tired so don't remember
Exactly what I did :cry::cry:

Yeah ms your phone is pretty decent
Though only tested it with Samsung
There's a definite lag issue though which I only tested
With games that lag was a problem in IE games needing fast response
Didn't try large video's or stuff
Though not gotten around to fully exploring the capability
Of WSA yet to see everything it offers beyond ms your phone capabilities
But games are an obvious part since not everyone has a high end phone
So usually your PC will have a lot more grunt
Intend to look more at what WSA is capable of compared
To ms your phone
But since it's very first version of WSA it should improve
Certainly the difficulty of putting play store on there
Will put a lot of people off
Don't doubt someone will come out with a one click solution

Yeah next time I have to do play store
Will be recording it as a macro for future use
As updating windows 11 preview may require redoing it or something
Though must admit I don't have enough knowledge
To turn that into something others could use
Do to different resolutions, screen sizes, position of stuff on screen etc
But there's plenty smarter people than me out there
Who will know

You will need to completely remove the other way, ie remove amazon app store and windows subsystem for android, delete the folders you created etc, and then follow the video to install windows subsystem for android, then just install whatever apk's you want through side loading.
ok
no problem will just load a previous macrium image
of before it was done
literally takes between 2 and 3 minutes to load the image

Bit late to the party but just trying to do this now, seem to be failing at the first hurdle of installing Windows Subsystem for Android with my region as UK. Do I need to set region to US, reboot, installed WSA then put region back to UK??
The method we used
May be outdated now even though was only
A few months ago
Last time I updated to latest version 11 preview
It broke my play store working
And made WSA glitchy too
So I actually imaged back to when it was working
So it may be you will need a newer method
Depending which version number windows 11 preview you have
