I literally just started my pc installed latest nvidia driver restarted my pc and now it takes forever to load into windows, signing in from login screen just spins and then eventually a grey screen with mouse cursor. Just a complete slow down!

Just booted into windows recovery and trying the system repair option.

If that does work what’s next best thing to try?

Reset or maybe reinstall of windows?

By the way I changed boot order to usb for the windows recovery media. Does the bios reset the boot priority after, or do I need to change it back in bios?

Thanks

Update decided to try a clean install, not got many files anyway so worth trying, this is second time this has happened though, last time I think I just did a reset of windows, not sure if that entirely the same thing as a fresh install?

Your SSD could be corrupted.

Boot into Windows recovery, select command prompt and type in chkdsk c: /f /r to check your SSD for errors and repair errors.

I ended up doing a fresh install, all fine so far. But if it ever happens again I will try this, how do I boot into windows recovery?

Also do I type it in exactly as you typed it with all the spaces?

Thanks

Yes you will need to type in "chkdsk c: /f /r" without quote to check your SSD for errors and repair errors.

You asked me really very odd first question how do I boot into windows recovery?

You knew how to boot into windows recovery as you mentioned in OP you booted into windows recovery to performed system repair.

Yeah but at the time I’ve no idea how I did it.

I just checked it’s automatic after powering off 3 times during boot, or pressing shift during restart on functioning pc.

By the way when I did a clean install earlier I forgot to delete all the disk 0 partitions, is that a big mistake?

No it is fine, you dont need to delete all disk 0 partitions.

There are 2 other quicker ways to access advanced startup options menu from desktop.

1. Open Settings > Recovery > Advanced Startup
2. Open Terminal and type in "shutdown /r /o /f /t 00" without quotes
