A friend has given me a Viglen Laptop to repair. Spec as follows:-
Its running Windows 2000.
What happens is, you fire it up and it gets to the W2k screen, the little bar moves up as its loading and then it goes to a blue screen on which you can see the mouse pointer. Stays like that for a few seconds, then reboots and starts again in an endless loop.
Tried all the other boot options, Safe Mode, Last good cfg etc, does the same, stuck in a boot loop.
I used MiniPE to have a rummage around it and all the hard drive utilities I have used so far say the drive is fine. Tried a FIXMBR utility and it also says its fine.
The owner says he isnt worried about keeping any data, although I can see most of his files and could back them up, I'm looking at trying either an XP upgrade installation or if that also fails, reformatting and reinstalling a fresh version of XP.
But before I do that I would like to attempt to fix the endless boot problem if, for anything, future reference in case the same thing crops up again.
Any ideas as to what else to try?.
