After dealing with a pile of HP Proliant DL320 G3's running W2k SP4 it's got me pondering:

Apart from performance being slightly better than W2k3 on low end systems is there any legitimate reason to use it for other than nostalgia purposes?

I've migrated the last of them over to newer models, moved to W2k8 with prepping. The media is still valid and COA's. Is there any reason to keep them or are they for a rubbish tip?

The old fashioned explorer and tools make you take a trip down memory lane, solid OS for its time but looking at my clock it's 2012. ;)

Apart from the fact that Microsoft no longer supports it and it would now be a very easy operating system to compromise? Oh, and nobody makes drivers for it any more. You can't move a COA to another machine anyway.

So many reasons. So very many reasons.

thought w2k3 was closer to xp than win2000 so performance wouldnt be as good as win2000 but 2000 i guess youd keep it for older programs more than anything, w2k8 on a dl320 g3 cant run that great can it?

Dual XEON Processors with plenty of RAM it seems to be merrily fine. It was originally a Microsoft Access database server (hosting some V.Large databases) which I converted over to SQL 2005. Seems to work like a charm *touches wood*

Thanks for the info, it was Windows 2000 which I thought could have some use but in that case safely bin.
