we have just added to our server a sata hard drive in removable rack connected to a sata PCI card so we could hot swap drives for backing up. However we have installed the PCI Card fine no problems there until we lock the removable rack and start the server up and it was taking over 15 mins to load windows 2003. Soon as we turned off the drive and started the server up again it was fine.

Does anyone know what this could be i have included the specs of the server below:

Dell Poweredge SC1420

1 x 146 GB SCSI drive
1 x 300 GB SCSI drive
1 x 300 SATA drive connect via a Ali SATA RAID Controller card
1 x 2.8 Ghz Xeon CPU
2 x 512MB ram total - 1 GB

Hope someone could help we thought i might have been we had the speed setting wrong on the back of the drive to 3.0 GB's insted of 1.5 as the specs of the PCI card said it could take up to 1.5gb's sec

Update:

we have now got the removable bay plugged directly to the sata controller on the board but now have a problem where if we unlock it we get a blue screen whats the best way to dismount the drive so we dont cause data loss etc. is there a program or batch file we can run.

We had got no further with using the other sata controller card.

Who recommended the Sata card you are using, was it Dell as I know the servers can be quite picky with controller cards, I know there not cheap, but the cerc sata card Dell use obviously works, but they charge you £200 for it...

Its usually when the bios of the sata card is trying to initiate a boot sequence aswell as the scsi you have in the server....

Have you got the exact model of the Ali card you have in there?
