Anyone know when this is to be released? MS say Q4 2009 but was wondering if this had been revised or if anyone knew better.

No, Windows Server 2008 R2 is the server side update of Windows Server 2008.

Windows Vista frontend --> Windows Server 2008 backend
Windows 7 frontend --> Windows Server 2008 R2 backend

Looking forward to the new version of Hyper-V. If Live Migration works as it should, we'll be moving away from Vmware (huge difference in ££)

R2 will be released the same day as Windows 7 apparently. But some people will get it sooner or later (MS Select)

You can test the new Hyper-V on the RC, there's even a RC hypervisor only install knocking around that's easy to install and test.

I've just bought a chunky new server in preparation, as we'll finally migrate from VS2005 when Hyper-V R2 comes.

Win7 is set to come out by Oct. 22 (At the moment). The Server OSes are normally right behind.
