Windows 2008R2 dodgy patching

Occasionally when I patch my 2008R2 servers, they come back up with a black screen saying something like:

"Applying update operation 12342 of 16953 (\registry\machine...)"

and it takes ages for then to finish and come online again.

Any idea why it does this? It happens randomly on all sorts of servers and virtual servers, is it a bug in 2008 R2?

happens also on windows 7 , i wouldnt worry about it

If it was just Windows 7, then I wouldnt worry about it, but when its a file server or a hyper-v server hosting 10 other servers, it becomes a major problem when its down for about 90 mins... People start shouting!

The message itself is normal but not hanging around for 90 minutes - I've never seen that before. I bet you could rebuild the server in 90 minutes.

Sounds like one loaded server but if it completes fine then I wouldnt worry.

A few hints, do the kind of thing in the evening or late at night when useage is low.

AND TAKE A BACK UP!!!!
