Hi,

I currently have a MacBook Pro and i have installed VMWare Fusion just recently on it. I have windows 3.1 and DOS 6.22 install files on my computer.

My aim is to install DOS and 3.1 on the virtual machine. However does anyone know how to make a bootable DOS 6.22 and a bootable windows 3.1 install cd from the floppy disk contents?

I know it's a long shot but thought i would ask :)

I have made a dos 6.22 install disk (well 3 disks) you have create a complete disk image of the floppy and burn it to the CD as the boot image i cannot remember what i used but i had to do each disk on a separate CD.

I have emailed you with a bootable floppy iso that i used when i was installing dos/windows in a vm machine

Yep i tried to do it on one but it threw a wobbly finding it. In the end i just used the old floppies i had. I also did a multi floppy install of windows 3.1 just to see if i could but the lappy i tried on made windows 3.1 cry and it gave up even the boggo default drivers didnt work. Remeber when you needed to install seperate drivers for your monitor that was the downfall. :D

What I have done, is simple...

BOOTDISK.COM will give you the first Boot Floppy right.

Make a Bootable floppy and in that floppy, use MSCDEX etc, so that when you boot from the floppy, you get CDROM access, and anythign else you might need

Now, simply go into NERO, and create a bootable CD, and use the Floppy that you have customised.

Select all the apps and files you want on the CD, and hey presto!

When I boot my DOS CD, It boots up like it did on the Floppy, with the REAL A: now becoming B:, the vistual floppy that was the boot image floppy, is now A: and the CDROM with the DOS files that I have just booted up with, is R: ( My own choice )

in that CD, is all the good tools as well as full DOS and Windows setup files and XTREEGOLD and such like

If you want me to do a full-on run down and re-build another DOS/WIN CD as I go to verify that it works, then let me know... Id be more than happy to do one for you.

Sicne DOS and Win3 are both freely available under the Abandoned software, then I dotn see a problem if I was to just build you a bootable CD that has DOS & Windows 3 on it?

MODs verify that one before I offer it though, but I think you iwll find that I am right... Same funnily enough with Windows 95 actually, and im sure 98 too, but Im not going to push that boat out just yet.

Abandonware != Freeware

It's still protected intellectual property under copyright law even if they decide not to sell it anymore. Heck, if abandonware became freeware everybody would be using Office 97.
