bit stuck on this.

I've got 4GB of memory and stupidly got windows 7 32 bit
but I see I lose 600mb of memory

should I return it and get 64 bit windows 7?

would their be any performance differences?

Install 64-bit. Many new apps and games are 64-bit compatible now so you get a bit more performance. And the extra ram will help. It's not hard to use over 3gb of memory.

If you can return it, return it. If you can't return it then for the sake of 600mb out of 4GB I don't think it would be worth buying another copy.

What kind of copy did you buy? The retail versions come with both 32 and 64 bit media.

damnn shame wish I had researched

I've got windows 7 home premium

64 bit for future it is

by the way what kind of applications are now 64 bit? apart from internet explorer

Your license isn't restricted to 32bit, it's equally valid for both, so you can reinstall using a 64bit DVD. You might have to go through Microsoft's telephone activation service to reactivate it, but as your copy of Windows will only be installed on one computer you'll be within the licensing terms.

As above
If you can borrow a 64 bit DVD, do a clean install with that. Is it OEM? because retail has both disks in the box
