Hi all,

Hopefully someone can help.

I currently supported a number of Windows XP machines which we use Check Point VPN-1 SecuRemote/SecureClient R60 HFA2. This works perfectly well but I have just started deploying Windows 7 64bit to a few new machines and this client isn’t supported on there. I searched the Checkpoint site and found Check Point Endpoint Connect R73.

Will this be compatible with R65 Firewalls and is it the replacement for VPN-1 SecureClient?

How do I configure the package with the userc.C file?

I installed the latest Smartconsole and tried using the cpmsi_tool.exe to extract the files but it doesn’t work.

All I want is a client that works on Windows 7 64bit. Am I going in the right direction please help?

Thanks

Endpoint Connect is the replacement for Secure Client/Remote.
I've tested using older versions of SC with newer versions of FW1 (R60 client R62 FW1), but I'm not sure if it will work the other way round.

Assuming you have a current support contract I'd raise a support case and ask, but I think the changes between R6x and R7x will have been too great.

I think you will have to upgrade your FW and management to R70, and it's probably going to cost your company money, due to the change to the blade licensing model. Do haggle with your upstream support supplier for the best deal, and make sure when they trade in the licences that you get "like for like".

If you have current software support subscription and access to your user centre, you can do the upgrade on line yourself, but make sure to confirm that you are getting like for like before you press the button and commit to upgrading the licences.

Thanks for the reply, it turns out there is another non costly solution to replace secure client.

Check Point currently have the following solutions available for Windows 7 64 bit

Endpoint Connect – This is currently the ONLY solution available today for Windows 7 64 bit and will require the customer to purchase Secure Access licenses in order to operate.

Discovery Client –Discovery is a thin VPN client combined with basic endpoint security capabilities such as desktop policy and compliance verification check being managed by the Smart Dashboard console. It will offer a continuity path for SecureClient customers that would like to keep their current solution architecture. This client is in the Early Availability stages and does not yet have a release date.

So in summary the only way for the customer to move forward TODAY is to purchase a number of “Secure Access” licenses and install the Endpoint Connect R73 client.
Failing this the customer will need to wait for the release of the new Discovery client.
