Hi Guys.

I have a machine running windows 7 64bit.
90% of the time its runs perfectly and fast.
Then it suddenly freezes, video stops and sound stutters, i have looked at task manager when this is happening but the cpu and mem seem fine.

Any ideas??

I had this problem after I upgraded my CPU, RAM and graphics card. I thought the RAM was most likely responsible. However, I realised that it would freeze when µTorrent was running, and when transferring files across the network. I then installed the latest drivers for my network adapter and it fixed everything. Previously, I was using the default Microsoft drivers when my hardware was detected after installing Windows.

So, it might be worth updating your network adapter drivers :)

Thanks will do now.

Sorry for the long response delay on this.
Tried updating all my drivers to no avail, still the PC. randomly locks up.

any other thoughts on this?
any tests i can run?

Make sure you got latest graphic drivers installed and sound drivers, mobo drivers, all drivers infact. If you have then try some old ones.

Also if its just when your watching a film then try installing new codecs, your codecs might be frigged.

Hi i can see there have been some Critical Events, all the same.

These are : Kernel-power
Event ID:41
Task Category 63

That said i think these are my reboots,

The most common event i am seeing is JRAID "The driver for device \Device\Scsi\JRAID1 detected a port timeout due to prolonged inactivity. All associated busses were reset in an effort to clear the condition."

could this invoke a lock up?

It could explain the freezes, also event 41 is basically an unexpected shutdown. How old is your BIOS, tried updating it recently? I've personally had issues in the past with dodgy jmicron bios software.

Update the bios (use gigabytes @BIOS if you're lazy like me), then move onto the modo drivers. I know of more than one case where older intel driver have been the cause of freezes so grab the newest ones off gigabyte and after installing check intel for updates (http://www.intel.com/support/detect.htm).

See how that goes, meanwhile I'll try to work out why my machine started freezing today :(
