Windows 7 activation ( no hardware change)

Hi all, I've got a genuine copy of windows 7, I've had it a few years and the other day I got a popup ( from the toolbar not from a webpage) saying windows 7 needs activating. I have not made any hardware changes at all so this seems very unusual. In the past I have reformatted/reinstalled a couple of times but I've not done that for about a year or more.
I tried to activate it today but it just says my activation key cannot be used

Any ideas, seems strange to me.

I've just activated using the phone system, I've still got no idea why I had to activate it though.

Happened to me in the past, but as you found out the telephone system works ok.

the telephone system is usually very good at resolving this
