Well I've just installed my Intel SSD and WOW :)

Definitely a worthy upgrade.

I've disabled Superfetch, Indexing and Prefetch.

can you get a stopwatch and record from on button to login screen? or if your single user from power button to your desktop?

i would like to see the difference between my HDD and a SSD. Im 14 secs with a external hd plugged in.

Turn them back on an it will be even faster!

have a look through the hard drive forums here and you will see its the best thing to do, would you buy new car then drive with flat tyres?

You will have bought a new drive before you come close to killing that one, they aint as sensitve as people think.

My 16Gb sandisk pendrive + readyboost using it all made a huge impact in logon - desktop time, computer is much more responsive. Guessing an SSD would just improve that no end. Shame I'll never have the money !

Do SSDs really make that much of a difference? I'm considering upgrading my laptops HDD to SSD.

It is the single best upgrade (X25m G2 80GB) I have done in the last 10 years. Using my pc is so much nicer. Everything just loads in a flash  I should note that I am incredibly impatient so my view is slightly biased :D

I can agree with this since getting my M225, problem is it ruins all other pc's you use forever because they all feel like a 486 in comparison!!

From what I've researched - Win 7 should turn some of these off as default as it's quicker anyway.

What's the point? the whole idea behind the SSD is that its instance access to any data on the disk. There's no searching the platters to get to the right bit. The only thing turning these on will do is create the search index and keep maintaining it, making unnecessary writes to the drive shortening its life.

Have a look in the Hard Drive forum on here we've been talking about these drives as well as tweaks etc for months now.
