Windows 7 and Wireless Issue

Wondering if anyone might have had the same problems!

I've had Windows 7 x64 running for a few months now without any issue at all, and all of a sudden it's stopped functioning properly in regards to wireless/internet connection.

I have a Edimax Ew-7728ln for my wireless that's been running faultless for over a year now.

The wireless connection comes from next door, and has been running on the same W7 and same Wireless details for well over 8 weeks, which my iPhone and gf laptop run off too.

Last week the connection to the internet has become a near non-entity, with a few seconds of connection here and there, all the while the iPhone and other PC are fine.

I've tried using windows network and then Edimax own for looking after the wireless, and nothing changed. I've update drivers, and nothing. I had a look at the Netgears wireless setting and nothings changed. I formatted and installed a clean W7, and windows update ran fine, but then back to the old problem.

Edit:

I'm wondering now if W7 update is installing a Railink/Edimax update for the wireless and thus causing a problem.

Now I had a hunch that paid off, I installed XP SP3 and as you would guess, it works flawlessly, the internet is as good as new.

But that fails to solve my problem of why W7 seem to have all of a sudden lost it's capability of connecting to the internet for more than 10sec at a time?

It could be windows update installing drivers that are breaking it (if i install the windows update drivers for my onboard NIC it stops working completely). After a fresh install of 7 make sure windows update is either turned off or set to notify you when updates are available. That way you can see if there's a driver for your wireless card and if so choose to hide it :).

Just tell the W7 installation to only install updates after prompting you, and then unchceck any networking related drivers, then install all the latest ones yourself and problem solved
