Windows 7 - ask when installing drivers?

When I install a new piece of hardware I'd like windows 7 to give me the option to install drivers from windows update rather than just doing it automatically.

I ask because I plugged in my mobile phone and accidentally switched it to the wrong mode and windows 7 installed all these drivers I don't need. I'd like to be able to say yes/no to what drivers get installed, if thats possible. All I can find at the moment is the option to turn it off completely.

I'm sure just turning the UAC up to aggressive mode, would do the trick?

Start menu --- right click "computer" select "properties" then "system protection" then select "hardware" then select "device installation settings" pick your choice of installation methods
