WOW !

Downloaded the windows7 beta drivers, installed and without even a reboot its 100% working. Im amazed lol.

Now to get games testing :D

so when you install video card drivers you dont need to reboot anymore?

Didnt need to reboot with 8.12 drivers, but have had to reboot for other software/removeing windows services.

Even when installing windows 7 it runs at full res lol, without drivers.

how does a clean install of wndows 7 install with a full res?
unless there some kind of video drivers written into the install

Had this same problem, Ati drivers won't install and all it will use is the crappy ones from windows update with no ccc. About to go back to vista

Did you download the special windows 7 beta ones?

Of course, tried the new beta drivers and various old one. Using a cleaner each time etc, but it just hangs at the same point. Seems quite a few people are experiencing it. Doesn't seem to be any alternative drivers either, checked omega and nothing there other than for xp.

It's a shame really as i'm liking the OS other than this problem, but will go back to vista for a while until they resolve a these issues.

You don't install ATI drivers with VMWARE, it's a "virtual" abstraction from your real hardware, you'll need to install the VMWARE tools which include a Video driver for Vista that "may" work with W7.

Which windows 7 are you using? I had terrible problems installing windows 7 drivers for a second time.

After I'd installed windows, the first set of drivers I installed, installed fine, but if I tried to update them, it wouldn't work.

This was using the 6801 and 6956 pre-betas. With the 7000 build, it looks like this problem has been resolved as I've installed and reinstalled drivers a few times to verify.

It was the 7000 build. First time i tried to install them it seemed fine until after the reboot, once the pc had rebooted windows automaticaly installed the generic drivers again and there was no sign of the Ati ones other than the install manager thing in add/remove programs. Any subsequent attempt at installing/uninstalling/doing anything with the ati drivers just resulted in the progress of them hanging. Tried everything i could think of to get 'em in but nothing worked and ended up reinstalling vista for now. Hopefully a fix or more information will appear in the next cuople of weeks as to why it was hapening but for now i can't find anything.

if the installer doesnt work then try this

open cmd
go to the root of drive "C"
type "cd ati"
then "cd DRIVERFOLDERNAME" replace driverfoldername with the name of the folder the drivers extracted to
then "cd Bin" or if using 64-bit type "cd Bin64"
if you already have a previous driver installed first run "atisetup -uninstall -output screen" or it wont install anything
then type "atisetup -install -output screen"

this worked for me.

Typical ATI driver problems, i had this crap with my X2.
Vista drivers should work on Win7 though. Does with NV drivers and every single other driver i've installed. If theres a problem right click on the driver .exe and run it in Vista compatibility mode.
