Almost every program I try and open comes up saying bad image 'such and such.dll is missing'
Having run loads of malware/virus scans/ sfc /scannow/ windows repair I'm not getting anywhere.

I've already done a backup, was the first thing I done, learnt that from previous times.

I'm guessing hard drive, as there is a click every now and then?

event viewer might have some messages.

also, you can usually check your hard drive by downloading some diagnostic tool from whoever made it. it's best to find one that runs from a bootable CD/usb stick to totally bypass windows.

Forgot to mention have run the WD's tool, but from within windows. Will see if they have a bootable version.

Good thinking on event viewer, I always forget to check that...

Cheers.

Bonus, found a WD cd that I had already done at some point so that is now running an extended test.

This is not my PC, but I reckon all this started when Windows updated, so after the test I'll see if I can remove the latest updates, see if that helps.
Even though when I done the repair, windows downloaded a load of new updates, so actually I doubt that will help, but can't hurt to try I suppose.
