Windows 7 beta - 9th January

i have done a quick check but can't find anything as there is a hell of a lot of pages. my sound is playing up in that it can be all fine, but then it will start crackling for a random period of time. I have checked online if my sound card has the latest driver but all drivers i find have a much much lower number then the version i have.

the sound card is: creative sb audigy 4
version : 6.0.1241

my Win7 install had become borked, looks like I'll be reinstalling this afternoon.
Hey Squark, did you not play around with any disk-imaging/backup software yet like Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image, its such a simple process and boots up from CD-ROM/USB Flash drive and makes a perfect image to another partition or drive.

It really is a 10 minute job to restore a complete system this way, by day I am a Windows XP workhorse and by nights (after a restore) I am a Windows 7 beta tester! :p

I've never tried disk imaging before, probably should.
Deffo!

If you got some spare storage space on another partition/drive then it makes sense, gives you extra confidence to try out new drivers and various software with the knowledge you can 100% reverse things as if they never happened.

PowerISO works fine and also has a tray icon if that's any use? It's paid for, but PC Pro gave it away last month if you know anyone who got it?

Anyway to make Windows explorer show an overview of the computer like it used to do in XP/Vista where it shows the hard drives, cd drives etc. rather than defaulting to libraries?

Installed it and it seems to be working OK so far. :)

Is there any way to have it as a taskbar icon like with DT though?

Not as far as I am aware. Just access through right clicking your files.

Mammalian i have done a quick check but can't find anything as there is a hell of a lot of pages. my sound is playing up in that it can be all fine, but then it will start crackling for a random period of time. There is quite a few reports of this, does it also go distorted? I had the problem until i installed the drivers from windows update again & now it is working fine.

Something else I just found weird. My pc just randomly turned itself on. It was and had been hibernated since last night.

Any ideas why it would do this? I've never set up WOL or anything like that.

In a cmd windown type :- powercfg /lastwake that should tell you what woke the machine up

Code:
C:\Users\z0mbi3>powercfg /lastwake
Wake History Count - 1
Wake History [0]
  Wake Source Count - 0

C:\Users\z0mbi3>

Does this tell me much?

Just installed W7 on my NC10 and I cannot for the life of me get it to see my shared folder on my file server - however I can remote desktop to it.

Server running XP Pro by the way.

Neither does the NC10 show up in the 'attached devices' page on the router.

Not to worry - I just needed to use the UNC path to map the share onto a drive letter, instead of browsing over the network, on which, by the way, it doesn't appear.

Just noticed that I havent restarted for 15 days, not a single issue. I'm using 7048, upgraded from 7000 thats been installed just before New Years.

Thinks are looking good for an early release imo. RC1 should be a goodun.
