windows 7 better than 8 for older games

having problems running some older games after upgrading to windows 8, batman arkham asylum, dirt 2 and 3, f1 2011, not really that important but i'd like to play them if I want!

upgrading the hdd's in the pc soon so was wondering....

I'm pretty sure I notice an improvement in quality and performance in most games since upgrading to win8 but would win7 offer the same improvement but also let me play my older games too ?

Older games? Jeez, I feel old. It's probably a driver issue if you are having problems with several fairly recent games

when i try to start them the message Launching.... comes up in steam, but nothing happens

just tried them again and batman is working now....

Hi

If running MSI Afterburner, ensure running latest version (230)

This sorted out my steam issues.

Also verify file cache of each game in Steam,btw I don't consider them old,I'm playing on Win8 Pro x64 Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 now thats old

There are definately issues with COD4 and Windows 8, but since you don't mention COD4 probably not a problem for yourself.

They all sound like GFWL games - you need to ensure you download and install the latest GFWL client, the version pushed out via Steam with these will not work on Windows 8.

I agree, GFWL is causing the problem here. It's a pain in the rear end with Windows 8 to get it set up initially.

As I posted here, you need the latest GFWL installer - it's a bit of a pain to find, hence why I linked it.
