Hi, i've been having a problem with my computer for quite a while. It never booted up properly and I would get a vertical line crash when I booted up sometimes, however if everything booted up alright I wouldn't have any problems.

Today however I turned on my computer to find that my computer will not boot up, it gets to the logo then restarts. The windows repair tool does not fix the problem and when I try to do a system restore to yesterday (dowloaded windows 7 updates) I get the following message:

StartRep.exe - Application error
The instruction at 0xfba713c0 referenced memory at 0x02858c90. The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the program

None of the safemodes work, using a previous configuration doesn't work and same with starting normally.

I have tried memory diagnostic aswell to no avail. Can anyone help?

My system:
i7 920 @ 3.8Ghz
6GB DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte EX58-UD5 motherboard
750w PSU
Sapphire ATI hd radeon 5970
1TB HDD
windows 7 prof 64bit

Have you tried disabling automatic restart? So you can see the error? Or is the error just causing a full on reboot?

Have you tried setting your bios to Defaults to rule out the OC?
Have you tried running a test on the HDD to make sure its not got bad sectors etc?

I would recommend you perform startup repair. Follow these steps:
To perform a Startup Repair follow the steps below:
1. Please insert the Windows 7 DVD and reboot the computer.
2. When we are prompted to press a key to boot from the DVD, please press Enter or the space bar.
3. Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
6. On the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair. Startup Repair might prompt you to make choices as it tries to fix the problem, and if necessary, it might restart your computer as it makes repairs.
I also recommend you to update the graphic drivers and see if it makes any difference. You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.
1. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2. In Device Manager, locate the device, and then double-click the device name.
3. Click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver and follow the instructions.

I've tried the repairs, however I get the error mentioned in my post. Sadly I can't even get to the login as the reboot happens during the windows logo appearing

the error just causes a full on reboot

as for the overclock, I had the overclock done by overclockers and I'm not particularly confident to alter it due to having very little knowledge in doing it. Might send it to overclockers to fix
