Folks,

I have Vista Ultimate box version not OEM version.

If I buy Windows 7 upgrade version, what are the pros and cons?

I understand it requires Vista to be installed first, then top it up with the Windows 7 upgrade version. Does that mean that it will inherit some of the short comings of Vista by the way the installation goes?

If I buy a Windows 7 full version, I install a completely clean Windows 7 pure blood.

In my honest opinion, for an OS as cheap as Windows 7, that you'll use every day for perhaps years, just buy through full version and forget.

Currently I own Vista Ultimate. I really don't need all the features, except the Bit-locker.

Major home use, for games and some file editing (typing resumes) and writing blogs, facebook...etc. I don't actually do photoshops, but maybe later when I learn DreamWeaver or Flash programming I need a bit more power.

So which edition I should be considering: Home, Home Premium, Professional?

Unless you *really* need Bitlocker, get Home Premium, and install 64 bit version :)

If you do *really* need Bitlocker, you'll need the Ultimate version.

Do I need it, no! Why? Because I am afraid that the data can't be unlocked LOL!!

So Home Premium is all I need, not even Professional? Would I loss any multi media stuffs?

I am getting ready for a upgrade & just read something that makes me wonder.

This approach changed with Windows Vista, and not necessarily for the better. If you followed the official Microsoft approach, you were stuck installing Windows XP each time you wanted to format your PC. Once it verified that a qualifying OS was installed, only then could then upgrade to Vista. This hokey double install process was a terrible waste of time, and seemed like a pointless exercise.

So I have to hav XP installed before I install Win7 upgrade, The first time is no big deal, but if I reinstall 7, I will have to install XP first??? What a pain,

WHat I normally do is to get the whole installation registered first. Then I use Ghost (version 11) to clone it to an image file and save it to hard drive.

Hey folks,

I have another question, about Windows 7 Home Edition. Since my primary storage is now a SSD which has <60GB of space.

What is the size of a clean install Windows 7 Home Edition? Hope it still leaves me with some space for a couple of game installations!

Thanks & Best regards
Peter
