Windows 7: Changes listed since beta for the RC

Wow...some of you are cynical...others sceptical...and the rest either know what to expect or just love Windows 7 so much.

But thats all good tho. It helps to have a variety (tis the spice of life and all that rage)...for me I use Windows 7 on a purposely built testing machine and I have to say I do love the way it looks and the features do look brilliant. I havent bothered testing games on it yet cos I already have a gaming machine (see sig) and havent installed any other software cos I have another machine that does pretty much everything. In total I have 5 PCs (4 desktops and 1 laptop) so it was so much easier for me to test Windows 7 on a completely seperate machine rather than sacrifice disk space or a whole other PC to test it on.

The spec I am running Windows 7 on is:

AMD X2 4400 2.2GHz
2GB DDR PC3200 RAM
80GB HDD IDE
1x 16xDVD-RW
ATI Sapphire X1300XT
Creative Audigy LS

It installed the drivers for the sound card via windows update which was very good. So far my only gripe is the control panel in that you cannot change it to classic view as yet. Unless someone has found a way? I am using the x64 7000 build as I know the 7022 build is only in x86 version at least for now I hope anyway.

When the RTM/RC version is ready, then I will give that a try and see how it goes. But for now I do love Windows 7. Networking wise it found my network and I was able to get my shared drives from my FTP onto it so I could add files to it if need be.

The folder pane on the left hand side in Explorer is definitely looking better...especially now u can see your actual network and easily pick which computer you want to add/take files from...

Roll on Sept/Oct 2009 cos I know I will be buying it.... :)
 
vista 64 is great and im sticking with this until i see a GOOD REASON to change,at the moment i dont see any reasons to change whatsoever....im a hardcore gamer and as long as the games run at there best i dont give **** about windows 7 or any other OS
 
The RC has been leaked (also build 7022 in 64bit is out).

The RC build is 7048 and is not bootable so you'll have to run the setup locally and let it configure the install process - not a problem for most who have build 7000 or above installed already I suppose :p

so if i wanted to get that i would run the beta for install and then run the new setup?
 
Is it just me or is the default setting for "Install updates automatically" on windows Update set to 3am? It's been waking me up for the past week, been trying to figure out what was causing it, I've fixed it now.
 
Well you could run the RC leak straight from within Windows if you already have it installed, just double click the setup file and that's it.

The issue is that the RC leak is not bootable so you can't install it on a freshly formatted drive so to speak but can install it on a drive with Windows already installed.

I'll be installing it on my netbook shortly over build 7000 :p
 
Shame they still haven't added start menu changes (i.e. classic start menu) I could only imagine if you rolled this out to business users the massive amount of confusion it would cause (even to the ctrl, alt and del screen not having domain anymore - why that is I'll never know).

Windows 7 is good, but at the end of the day it's just Vista with some tweaks, it's a leaf out of Nvidia's re-branding book :-P I honestly felt little difference to using it and Vista minus the small things that makes things a bit easier...Most the people who "dissed" Vista never used it to be honest!

Vista runs well on my machines with no problems as does IE, and Windows 7 on the two machines are all well and good.

Will be installing Windows 7 when it reaches MSDN to all my machines, but frankly, I see it more like a service pack on Vista...
 
YOU CAN UNINSTALL IE IN WINDOWS 7 WOO!

Along with various other changes that are to be reflected in Windows 7 RC, here is a big change that is not in the list. From Windows 7 build 7048, Internet Explorer(IE) is an optional Windows feature and can be installed/uninstalled from Windows 7. This will be a welcoming (and surprising) news, especially to European Union and Opera who have accused Microsoft for not giving consumers a genuine choice of Web browsers.

If IE is upgraded to version 8 in Vista (from version 7), users do get an option to uninstall IE 8, but not IE 7. IE 7 remains as integral component of Windows Vista which cannot be removed.

To uninstall Internet Explorer from Windows 7:

* Go to Control Panel
* Open Programs
* Click Turn Windows features on or off
* Deselect Internet Explorer 8
 
I'm all for allowing 3rd party apps (I use firefox myself), but the EU ruling thing is nuts..

from a noobs point of view, an OS without any IE or media player would be rubbish. fact!

Don't they think the same for apple? lol
 
I haven't had a play with 7 yet.

Think I will be installing the RC as my main OS when it is released though. I love Vista 64, any improvement at all would amaze me.

do what i did mate and pick up a cheap 2nd drive and do a install on that, i did not really wanna have it on my fully working trouble free system. had it on my laptop for a while too but needed that back on vista for work use.
