Windows 7 'checking for updates' forever.

Hi all,

I'm trying to update my laptop, which is running Windows 7 Home Premium, but it's just doing the Checking for Updates shiny bar thing forever, and not actually finding any.

Any advice on how to fix this?

I believe there's a thread further down the page with some suggestions, from what I can tell the solution varies from person to person but there's a lot you can try.

Use WSus offline update and that should install all the old updates

Windows update basically ties itself in knots. There's a handful of offline updates that'll bring it nearly up to date listed above.

Vista appears to suffer exactly the same problem. I have been trying to get an old laptop to update over the past two weeks and it gets absolutley nowhere.

Are any of the solutions above likely to work?

Thanks for that link. After a week or so on and off of trying to fix my Linx Tablet updates the suggestions in that worked for me.
