After installing W7 HP SP1 I find that I am having continual updates. Because this is only a little used netbook with an atom chip and 1Gb memory, it can take an eternity.
After initial intall 151 updates, + 1 hr. 26 more, +3 hrs. 101 more.
On the next day at least 100 more and each time as you are aware the process takes ages. Because this stays at home it is not a massive problem, just an irritant.
I don't want to turn off updates and manually install them weekly say, as this would take hours.
My question is a) will this large number of updates continue, or is it an initial install problem b) if they do, how can I discriminate what is necesary.
What do you guys do and what advice can you give me. Cheers.

it is something you just have to put up with on a new install. once done, updates are released once a month on "patch tuesday".

i must confess to having windows updates disabled completely because i only have 3G internet through a dongle and it would cost me something like 15 quid to patch windows. i'd certainly let it run if my internet wasn't an issue.

same happened on my i5 rig. i have an ssd and it took an age so on a slow netbook i feel for you.
you will just have to get it done though.
