Hi,

After a crash running 3dmark 11 yesterday my pc/windows just doesn't seem to want to work properly. I'm almost certain the gpu hasn't over heated as I always keep an eye on temps and voltage wise it's never been taken above 1.118 on the core and 1631 on the memory - 7950. My pc also doesn't have a virus. I had no issues at all before this crash yesterday. sfc scannow command comes back with no issues. I haven't installed anything new hardware or software wise. When booting into windows after the crash, the hard drive seemed to do a repair. This only happened once. Previously after the crash the computer wouldn't play music in media player and firefox kept crashing as did bf3 even before launch. This now appears fixed. I also got windows explorer crashes - again now appears fixed. However i just got the following blue screen:

Any ideas?!

I would guess that the CPU overclock is slightly unstable, either put it back to defaults or up the Vcore slightly and see if the issue happens again. Same with the GPU if it is manually overclocked.

I'd also suggest running memtest86+ to verify the memory isn't faulty: http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

a bit of googling came this

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135[/URL] ----> How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
Perform a clean boot (check step 1 of the link); if everything works fine after a clean boot, you can infer that some third party services are causing the problem.
Proceed with the remaining steps to pin-point out the third party service.
Note: After you figure out the problem causing program, you may have to update or install a higher version of the program, if you seldom use that software you can consider uninstalling
Important: - remember to put the computer back to normal startup follow step 7 in the link.
If the issue persists,
Step 3: Try to install the latest drivers for all the devices via windows update or check the device manufacturer’s website.
1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.
2. In the left pane, click Check for updates.

Install all the important and recommended updates.
Step 4: Check if RAM sticks are working fine; follow the steps mentioned in the link below

Step 5: Check your hard disk for errors; follow the steps mentioned in the link below
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Check-your-hard-disk-for-errors

If the issue still persists,

Step 6: Run an online scan for any threat and try to fix them

Step 7: You may consider flashing\updating the BIOS (Basic input output system)

Modifying BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.
Please check with your computer manufacturer for flashing the BIOS.

I'm pretty sure it's the gfx card as the memory on it hasn't ever properly ran at 1250mhz on all games and I've been running it at 1230mhz. Could faulty gpu ram cause the issues?

Might try uninstalling and using driver sweeper then a re-install. Mem diagnostic on windows seems fine. I'm doubting it will be the cpu or ram as no issue before and nothings changed.

Faulty GPU memory usually results in artifacts, sparkles and other visual issues during gameplay. I'd suggest writing down the settings you are using for the GPU, or save them to a profile, reset the GPU to default overclocks and voltages and see if the issue happens again.

In my experience driver cleaner causes more problems than it solves, the uninstallers on modern GPU drivers are very good. You could certainly try though, maybe try a different GPU driver version if you are not on the latest.

Possibly afterburner. After running a repair and rollback when windows booted afterburner didn't start like normal as a message came up stating some files were corrupt?

Might pay if you haven't already to verify the S.M.A.R.T values on the hard drive you have Windows installed on to insure it is working properly. Something like Crystal Disk Info will show you the health and values: http://crystalmark.info/download/index-e.html

However that being said the files could have been corrupted by any number of things, including the BSODs themselves. Let us know how you get on anyways.

Since re-installing afterburner and fraps I haven't had a crash or blue screen. Windows host process service has stopped responding message has however come up. Currently running a full Malwarebytes scan as a quick scan previously found nothing. The Windows security checker also found nothing.

Edit - Malwarebytes found nothing on full scan.

Did you enable the GPU overclocks after re-installing Afterburner or is it running at stock?

I didn't keep the old profile and setup a new one. I know for sure there are no stability issues with the current clocks and voltages.
