windows 7 defrag help ?

Hi All i have windows 7 64x installed and just wondered if the built in defrag is any good ? or should i get the free ones available ie Defraggler i heard is very good . :confused:

I use O&O DeFrag.

Lets me defrag 4 Drives, Convert 4 AVIs from E: to 4 DVDs, in F: burn 4 DVDs from F:, and play games on D: without any noticale drop in HD Performance.

I use the Windows defrag.

Lets me do everything with zero drop in HD performance as it does it when my machine is idle.

Absolutely no need for any third party tool unless you have some really weird specific requirement. Once 7 has defragged once it does an excellent job of keeping on top of it. As I have said a million times already, my drives have never been more than 1 or 2% fragmented and that is only after a lot of file moving/deletions.

Yes, this is for the most part true.

After installing, its buggered, but to be fair, it does stay fairly well in order.

I have said it before and I will say it again... The DeFrag tool is one of those tools that dont really make all that much difference one way or another. Its really mostly down to personal preference because while the user interface is different between them, the actual defragging routines are the same code.

Only issue I doi have with Windows' defrag is that it does not know whether it needs defragging or not? - Many-a-time, If you use Windows it will say that it does not need defragging but when you have a look with a thrid party defragger, you can see quite clearly that it bloody well does.

Some other defraggers are more intelligent in placing files, so there are reasons for using them.

I didn't find Defraggler that good but Mydefrag is great - http://www.mydefrag.com/

Diskeeper is great. v. 2010 has active fragmentation prevention features built-in. I use it on XP. SHould work without any issues on 7 x64 too.
