windows 7 disc

I'm curious as to exactly how, in the process of installing Windows, you managed to completely scratch the hell out of it?

It's quite easy to knock a CD drive and ruin the disc. As said you can download an ISO and burn it to a disc or put it on a memory stick.

It's perfectly fine to download an ISO (just google Windows 7 ISO) and burn it to a disk to install, provided that you have a valid CD key.

stupid question i know but if you have a windows 7 cd but dont have the CD where do you stand with that ?? can you get a copy key from anywhere ??

cheers

The product key is usually a sticker on the case itself, not the disk. So you use that key with a new ISO and it will still work as long as the key is valid.

i have the disk just not the key so where do i stand with this :( decided it would be clever idea to throw out the box when we had a clear out

That wasn't very clever because it's basically the key you paid for.

If the copy of Windows is installed you can try and use a program like Magic Jelly Bean to find out what the key is.

Unless you've got the licence sticker you wouldn't legally be able to sell your copy of Windows (if retail), or sell your PC with Windows installed (if OEM), as you you can't show you have a legitimate copy.
