I'm a little confused now.

Reports say that people who pre-ordered through Microsoft will get the full version at the upgrade price, but what about people that have pre-ordered but through retailers like OCUK?

As I understand it MS can only offer the full version in the EU due to the legislation that prevents them from bundling IE with it. Upgrading Vista (or whatever) to 7 would mean IE remains a part of that so they'd fall foul of the regs.

I was therefore under the assumption that any UK etailer offering Windows 7 was offering the full version, if they're not then conceivably it's because they're importing them from the States dirt cheap or some other underhand tactic.

from what i understood, per orders were for a version without internet explorer but not you will receive a version with internet explorer

Those who pre-ordered Windows 7 "E" through a recent discount offer will get the full version, as Microsoft had promised. However, Microsoft plans to now sell Windows 7 upgrades in Europe and also offer a higher-priced full version (for those without an earlier copy of Windows)--similar to what it is doing in the rest of the world.

"Those who pre-ordered Windows 7 "E" through a recent discount offer"

This is the bit that's a little confusing.... is that all discount pre-orders, or just the ones via Microsoft?

It's widely assumed that means all discounted pre-orders, not just those from Microsoft. For a definitive answer you're probably best off asking the retailer.

A lot of people have pre-ordered on the knowledge that they will be getting a full retail version. If Microsoft were to change them to upgrade copies there would be a huge uproar, not to mention a lot of bad press. It's just not going to happen, everyone who pre-ordered will be getting a full retail copy.

I don't think I've seen a difinitive answer on what will happen to those that have pre-ordered the -E version at full price (which was in fact the upgrade price). Now that's been binned and everyone will get the full priced product will they have to pay the full retail price for a non-upgrade version.

I tried.... The person I spoke to clearly didn't even understand what 'E' was!

@hohum: This is a very iffy area. The item you preordered is not what will be shipped from what I understand, and if you have yet to pay for it you are on even shakier ground. As my other half is a barrister you learn very quickly what is morally right and what actually happens are rarely the same thing!
Yes, anyone who has preordered should get a full version and have to pay no more money than agreed at the point fo pre-ordering, but I'll not be even slightly surprised if this doesn't happen. On the other hand I'll be very happy if that's how it does go.

Mine is pre-ordered jokester the funds dont come out of my account until the goods are ready to be sent.

Same for mine.

I would assume, if you had paid for it, they would have to honour it or give a full refund. However if you don't pay until it's delivered, I don't think there's anything wrong with cancelling it. It's happened to me before. I preordered COD4 when it popped up on the site, then they took it down, and cancelled my preorder. No biggie, IMO.

I have paid for my windows 7 i used paypal and they have taken the cash already .. was shocked but its paid for now and wont have to worry about the bill later

People who pre-order for Windows 7 E will get full version as MS promised to stick with but still not yet to be accept by EU - still review at the moment, MS still sit and wait to hear from EU if it accept or reject to dump "E". if accept then MS change to ballot box instead of E plus people will get full version until end of 2009 as the price will go up from 2010 - mean W7 full version at upgrade price stay until 31st December 2009 cos MS make it mess after decide to dump "E"...
