From what I gather Windows 7 has ditched Windows Mail and doesn't in fact ship with an email client.

I also believe that Microsoft have a downloadable email client in the shape of Windows Live Mail.

Is Live Mail any good? Do you need a Windows Live account to access it or can you set it up to use any email address and mail servers?

If it isn't much cop, what is a good alternative?

Just downloaded and set this Windows Live Mail up....But seems rubbish so far

Can't workout how am i meant to import all my e-mails from vista windows mail into it

They probably haven't made how to do it obvious, as most people should be using Imap or exchange (or exchange clones like mobile me, google sync etc) by now, and thus they wouldn't need to import anything.

It certainly is possible - I've had to do it twice recently to get email from Outlook into Live Mail, via Windows Mail.

Off the top of my head, File > Import.

Thunderbird, I rarely see any spam in my inbox as the filter is so effective at shoving it into the junk folder.

Interface is fairly basic and a little.. bland but it does the job. I've been using it for about 3-4 years, just mozbackup when I'm Ghosting or have built a new PC :)

Is there anyway to install Windows Mail in windows 7

It is apart of the "Live Essentials" pack.

Comes with:

I personally prefer it as it means I dont have it installed UNLESS I need it :)

Sorry, misunderstood.

Live Mail is Windows Mail though with extra bits added on/removed.

Differences from Windows Mail / Outlook Express

Ability to view and edit HTML email by source has been removed.
Scripted stationery is not supported.
In version 14, toolbar icons are absent.
Locally installed help documentation is not available.
The Identities feature is not available.
Supports using different mailboxes with separate folders (inbox, junk and so on).
Supports DeltaSync, a proprietary protocol for access to Windows Live Hotmail e-mail accounts.
Supports the WebDAV HTTP-based protocol (web-based e-mail accounts). Outlook Express supported WebDAV but Windows Mail did not.
Supports full-text index-based search if Windows Search is installed.

Import not working for me :(

Coming up with a error window saying files not supported or some rubbish like that..

Glad i found this post .... i didn't know there would be no email client with my copy of Windows 7.....

I've been trying to figure it out for the last hour ..... at last i'm getting somewhere......

Yeah, took me awhile too!

I use IMAP. Invaluable when you use 3 different pc's (Desktop, laptop, netbook) and a phone.
Never used POP based stuff for 3 years or so now.

Not convinced on the massive folder names and the like, but the fact that you can colour your email names I do likey a lot!
