Just downloaded Windows 7 using there "Get it really cheap if your a student" option (£30 for pro :) )

The download has finnished using there download manager and has given me 3 files; 2 .box files and an application file which seem's to extract the box files (Why can't they just give an iso...)

When running this application they supply, it get's about half way then i get the error

"We are unable to create or save new files in this folder in which this application was downloaded. Please check the folder properties t make sure you have security permissions on the folder to write files and that the folder is not read-only"

Upon changing the file from "read-only" to extract, it just changes back :@, all help is welcome.

EDIT: The error come's up when "Prepairing box 2"

Check the download page again, I got the option to download an iso. That was from the MS Store, not the student offer.

I've never used this before..

Make sure you have enough space on the drive
Put the files in a folder..
C:\7files\ and try from there..
Disable AV when doing it
Re download file..

doggs: I wasn't given an option, just a link to there download manager which downloaded the panzee box files.

bledd.: Tryed moving/creating/editing files, nothing would work. AV is off which didn't help, not tryed a re-download yet as my internet speed is rediculasly slow.

not sure what your problem is I'm afraid, but I got the same student version with the same files. I did a clean install but I believe you are upgrading? I made a bootable windows 7 disk by following instructions here. (note, at step six, do not use the command line command listed at the top of the page, find user comment number 8 and use the command detailed there). Don't know if will make any difference, but you could try making this disk and run it from within your current operating system to perform the upgrade instead.

[edit]removed the link in case the iso link on the page is inadvisable

it seems a bit daft to me that they don't use an ISO, with a md5 checker on their site to check it

The actual guild was of little help as im unable to extract the files to compleat it but, at the bottom is a link to download the iso. I thank you deeply for that link :D

yeah I agree, it's a bit of a pain. By the way, I used the very handy and very small iso burner ISO Recorder, if by any chance you use this application to burn the iso, when you enter the command line command do NOT use -lWIN_EN_DVD , ISO recorder doesn't like the underscores and the burn will fail right at the end(WIN_EN_DVD is the name given to the disk, it's what you will see in Computer when you insert the disk), instead I tried -lwindows7 and it worked.

ok Jamie, bookmark the link for reference, I've removed the link in my post as I'm not sure exactly where that iso comes from, don't want to get in trouble!
