7 has adapted this "homegroup" sharing, it specifically says only users of Windows 7 may be placed in the share centre. I wanted to add a pc so it can see my files, I can see the other pc's files and the other pc can see me but can't connect. all the sharing options are turned on by default yet I cant allow this xp machine to view my documents. any ideas?

I had a nightmare with sharing on windows 7 but fixed it.
If you right click on the folder you want to share and go through the sharing options, make sure 'everyone' is selected and allow full access.

The next thing you need to do is to turn off the file sharing password.
Click on the advanced sharing settings
Scroll done and under 'Password Protected sharing' select 'turn off password protected sharing'
You windows XP machine will now be able to see the shared folder on your windows 7 machine.

Took me ages to sort this out but once i found out that password protected sharing is turned on by default, and i turned it off, bingo everything worked.
