Windows 7 Gets Official Release Date: October 22

All I need now is a price! I haven't had any running problems with Win7 but I need a new graphics card to do anything like games; and I refuse to buy a graphics card till my exams are done!

Very impressed with the smoothness of the stock drivers I must say, especially the wireless ones. Not had a single problem on the windows wireless drivers yet the XP install with the same wireless card irratically locks up :(

I guess they'll be patching al those beta OS's to shut them down earlier than next June then :p

There's no reason why the RC can't remain active until that date. When MS announced that date, they would have known they would be releasing it for sale sooner than that.

Now this has made me happy...I will definitely be buying two x64 copies, one for my gaming PC and one for my main machine. I use the RC on my main machine and I love it so much. Windows 7 has all the features possible on it and more. I do love its built in DVD ISO burner.

So yeah roll on 22nd Oct :D

If they charged something like £79.99 for a retail copy id find that perfectly acceptable.

They really need to go for quantity rather than high and silly prices.... £250+ for a retail copy is just silly expensive.

Most companies never buy retail copies so its clear the retail ones are aimed at end users like joe bloggs in the street. AT £250 hes far FAR more likey not either not bother or buy a copy from the bloke down the pub.

At £80 he will be much more tempted to go legit and buy it. After all norton 360 flies off the shevles and thats near enough £50!

Of course the hardcore pirates will always pirate no matter what, but if the average joe is pursuaded to go legit it can only do MS good rather than harm.

My 2ps worth anyway.... :p

totally agree.

the prices need to be on par with other software out there. or just abit expensive.

if an anti-virus costs £30. then a OS should cost no more than £100

Woohoo - my MSDN run out in January next year so at least I will be able to grab a few keys before that expires :D

I haven't been this excited about an OS coming out of the MS stable since 95 made its first appearance.

:)

Goksly hugs MSDN licence.

Home price I'd expect to be about £125 with the 'ultimate' version being £175+. MY guess anyways.

Good analogy, though :)

Because I don't feel that it's that different from Vista (spare me the hypetrain, everyone)

I agree, which is why i also feel Microsoft shouldn't charge a large amount. It isn't really a 'major' upgrade. It's Vista with features removed, a bit of fine tuning and a slightly modified UI.

Woohoo, better start saving for my new pc ;] Promised myself a new one when 7 is released. Lets hope they don't botch it and we have to wait til sp1 for it to become usable!

Really looking forward to WIndows 7. I haven't got a chance to try out the beta yet, mostly because I can't be bothered to deal with the formatting / installing hassles.

Will buy this on release on doubt.
