windows 7 hangs at "starting windows" screen

I've tried the start up repair tool and bootrec.exe but neither have worked. All ive done is move the hdd from one case to another. BIOS detects it and there is no clicking or anything.

Any help apprefiated

It is a disk controller mode that is set in the BIOS, but I doubt that it is the cause of your problem. Worth a look though I suppose.

Have you moved the HDD into a different system?

If you have it's probably hanging because the drivers are different between the different systems.

It's the same system other than a different GPU (6950 to a 4850).

Yeah, it works in safe mode.

Edit: Sweeping the display drivers in safe mode sorted the problem. Thank you very much.
