Please help folks.

As an Open Univerity student, I qualified for a student discounted copy of Windows 7 Professional Upgrade. It wasn't 'cheap' but I took the plunge. Unfortunately I just went ahead and purchased the 64-bit edition, only to find that neither of my computers can utilise the 64-bit!

I've e-mailed the company and am awaiing a reply to see if I can change to a 32-bit edition. However, I do not hold out much hope, as I would imagine that their assumption would be that foul play was the order of the day (piracy) - which it is not!

I am cut up about this as I may have wasted a load of money and I need to format my HDD and reinstall an OS (and I have lost my Vista disc!) My laptop is runnig so slow and I nned to do something.

Has anyone ever had a similar problem, or indeed would anyone know what the likely outcome will be from the company? The other problem is that the disc states "not for resale" on it, so if they won't swop it, I will have wasted a lot of cash!

Opinions welcome :(

What makes you think you cannot use 64-bit. Your PC must be ancient!

It doesn't really matter anyway. All you need to do is find a 32-bit Retail ISO [or OEM if the copy you have is OEM]. Digital River has one you can download for free. Your Product Key will work with either 32 or 64-bit. :)

Hi mate and thanks for responding.

I think it was DR that I obtained my 64-bit copy from. I can't see any free links there?

My laptops are gaming laptops. One is a good few years old and the other must be over 3 years old. The official Windows site advised a couple of tests be run on each system to detect if it is 64-bit W7 capable, and the response was a resounding "no" :( Also, the fact that it won't install is a giveaway lol.

My hope is that the company come back to me and offer to send a 32-bit disk out and I will send mine back.
